“What a disservice it is to silence ourselves when we have so much to give to the world.“

-José Rosario

These are some talks from our founder, José Rosario, that share his story and the foundation for the mission of The Phoenix Empowered.

"I hear you": The Psychology of Our Differences

When interacting with people, we can easily identify our differences. But, what happens when we recognize that we all have differences? Communities where individuals can grieve and heal collectively, emerge and are united by a shared identity that influences the ways in which we experience the sociopolitical world. So, how do we advance mental health practices to meet the needs of a diverse world and honor differences? José R. Rosario is a speaker, author and above all, an advocate. As a member of many diverse identity groups, Jose recognizes that common experiences bring people together and that taking stock of who we are gives us power. Jose wants to inspire others to acknowledge their identities, share their stories and empower those who are underrepresented to rise. As a mental health professional, Jose understands that this empowerment, and the creation of a space to be vulnerable, can lead to individual and group growth, awakening agents for change (TedxProvidence, 2019).

The Impact of Storytelling

Speaker, writer and advocate José Rosario is a mental health professional with hopes to facilitate change and make an impact across communities. With his message of empowerment and acceptance, he hopes to reach individuals during some of the most tumultuous points of their lives and encourage healing. His initiative, The Phoenix Empowered, strives to assert that it is permissible to rise up and find your voice (Peacelove, 2018).

The Power of Words

On May 18th, 2017 the Peace of Mind Storytellers event brought together leaders in the mental wellness space to share their stories and the work they are doing to help create peace of mind in the world. The event featured a full day of compelling storytellers, live performances, food, cocktail party, opportunities to meet the speakers, and a lively atmosphere. The day was hosted at Rhode Island College, with storytelling and breakout sessions in Sapinsley Hall (Peacelove, 2017).
